Thanks, I'll keep you posted on my progress, I'll probably have some more big things done by tonight if I can work it out.
And bfr's wasnt really offtopic, it had to do with screenshots. I think that discouraging offtopic posts discourages posting in general, because if bfr had not been able to post that thought here, he probably wouldnt have posted it at all, and with only 4 active members, we need the discussions that offtopic posts create.

This is the direct link. If you want to submit the file to the archives: - You must say that you're a "Co-Author"
- You must have the consent of the original author.
- The original author is probably not around!
But you can still play it! FYI, ASM games are much better.

But I'm about to submit one of my games that I completely made. Do I need to be registered on ti-calc.org though?

I'm not to good at makin' RPGs where the screen moves. Seems like you are good. Same goes for Kevin. Also, same will probably go to Vladik when I see GTA.

you can't tell, but i rewrote the entire engine from the first screen to the second, using an amazing revelation i had a few days ago on the bus. I'll explain my system later, but it makes everything so incredibly simple it's ridiculous.

Post by bcherry on Feb 3, 2005 18:52:38 GMT -5
Basically I used function pointers to compartmentalize everything and keep the implementation short and generic. I know that when I'm running left, I'm definitely running left. I'm not jumping, falling, rolled up, or even running right. So I write a function runningLeft() and write out how the game should work assuming the only thing you will ever be doing is running left. Then when I'm running left, I point samus.mode to runningLeft. If I find that I press right, well then I should be running right, so i point it at that. When I press jump, I point to jumping. so all i do is run samus.mode() every time, and it knows what to do. Then I can write easy simple functions, knowing exactly what is going on in each.
