Interpreted? Can't be used for anything useful. Here's a little list of stuff: BASIC (although the original version, Dartmouth BASIC, was compiled, as are most modern BASICs) Euphoria Forth (traditionally threaded interpreted) Java (compiled to bytecode which is then interpreted) JavaScript Lisp Logo (interpretation makes interactivity easier) Mindscript MUMPS (traditionally interpreted, modern versions compiled) PHP Python (compiled to bytecode which is then interpreted) Ruby Tcl I guess all of those languages aren't useful either.

Underused? You mean overused?
Java, Javascript, PHP, Python, and Lisp (which is kinda new) are all pretty good. That's 5 languages.
